From multi-week classes to introductory workshops, we offer all different kinds of ceramics instruction at our studio in downtown Erie, PA. Examples of common ClaySpace classes are listed below. One Day Classes
Mud to Mugs: Looking for a fun and creative night out? Join us for a beginner-friendly mug-making class and turn a slab of clay into your very own handmade mug—no experience needed! In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn how to build a mug from scratch using slab-building techniques. Our instructor will walk you through the process step-by-step, from shaping your form to adding handles and decorative touches. You’ll design a mug that’s totally unique to you!
MYO Tiki Tumblers: Craft your own tiki cups in our Tiki Tumbler workshop! Make one-of-a-kind cocktail cups and infuse your next cocktail with tropical vibes!
Sip & Spin: Bring a drink, bring a friend, and get ready to make some muddy memories! Sip & Spin is our laid-back, BYOB pottery class where you’ll learn the basics of throwing clay on the wheel—no experience needed. Our instructor will guide you through the process step-by-step, helping you center, shape, and (maybe) master your first pot. Expect a little mess, lots of laughs, and a creative night out that’s anything but ordinary.
Tandem Throw: Pottery Date Night: Grab a partner—friend, spouse, coworker, or actual date—and take a spin on the wheel! In this playful workshop, you'll each learn the basics solo, then team up for a tandem throwing session that's all about trust, creativity, and a little clay-covered chaos.
Try It! One Day of Wheel Throwing: Curious about the pottery wheel? This beginner-friendly class is the perfect way to dip your hands into clay! Whether it’s your first time or you’re brushing off old skills, you’ll get a guided, hands-on introduction to wheel throwing—no experience needed. Our instructor will guide you through the process step-by-step, helping you center, shape, and (maybe) master your first pot. Expect a little mess, lots of laughs, and a creative night out that’s anything but ordinary.
Multi-Week Handbuilding & Wheel Classes
If you’re looking for a new hobby, trying to add another medium to your portfolio, or you just want to get your hands dirty with something fun, our multi-week classes are for you. 4-, 6- and 8-week ceramics classes at Erie ClaySpace offer something for all skill levels.
Whether it’s hand building, sculpture, or wheel throwing, you’ll leave each class with knowledge about many aspects of working with clay. Depending on the class, you can expect to learn about the physical properties of clay, how to make simple/complex forms, how to finish and decorate your forms with various techniques, and the process of firing and glazing your work.
Open Sessions are included in the cost of each 4-, 6- or 8-week class are free Saturday and Wednesday Open Studio sessions. While classes are in session, every student enrolled in a multi-week ceramics class may use the studio on Saturdays from 12pm-2pm and Wednesday 6-8pm to practice newly learned skills. While there is no instruction during this time, Erie ClaySpace staff are available to provide guidance and assistance as needed.
Private Parties & Events
Our private classes include 2 hours of personalized instruction from a professional teaching artist, the use of all materials and tools, and the firing of your projects. We offer a variety of class options both in wheel-throwing or hand-building. Come on into the studio to with your group and throw some handmade bowls on the potters’ wheel, slab build a custom mug or sculpt your pet!

Rates:
2-4 people, $70 per person
5-7 people, $60 per person
8+ people, $50 per person
Projects are typically ready for pick up at our studio within 2-4 weeks.
Any event can be BYOB. We are happy to set up tables and tablecloths for food and drink if you’d like to bring them! (Please provide your own serving ware and utensils, if needed.)
